Blades of Change is an ongoing community art project founded and curated by Jill Drllevich which asks artists to think creatively about sustainability while using nuclear power plant fan cooling blades as blank canvases. Drllevich procured more than 200 of these fan blades many years ago when she came across them in a scrap metal yard in Tacoma, Washington. They were originally intended for the Satsop Nuclear Power Plant in Elma, Washington which never came to fruition.
Jill Drllevich presents innovative group art exhibitions and other art events which bring new life to these unique repurposed nuclear artifacts. Each 200 pound, 6-foot-tall fiberglass blade serves as a blank canvas for nine visual artists of various mediums including painting, sculpture, textiles, ceramic, and cut paper.
